History of Museum Artifacts History Essay
The Ashmolean Museum contains exhibitions representing a variety of historical periods, such as the Renaissance, Antiquity or the Middle Ages. Overall, this museum represents antiquarianism, an important period in the history of archaeology. During this period, archaeologists paid more attention to objects that could be distinguished. This essay outlines a way to conceptualize the relationship between cultural identity, collective memory, and artifacts. It begins by characterizing the concept of cultural identity as our membership in cultural groups and briefly examines the relationship between cultural and narrative identity.
