Ancient Egyptian writing is known as hieroglyphs, sacred engravings, and was invented sometime before the Early Dynastic Period c. 3150 - According to some scholars, the concept of the written word was first developed in Mesopotamia and came to Egypt through trade. While cross-cultural exchange certainly occurred, it is notable that the concept of deduction in Greek played a crucial role in distinguishing ancient Greek mathematics from famous ancient Egyptian mathematicians. The Greeks copied many methods and techniques from the Babylonians and Egyptians. Nevertheless, the Greeks were among the first to make mathematics a domain of theory. In the third century BC, a famous medical school was founded in ancient Alexandria. Although essentially Greek and following the teachings of Hippocrates, it was heavily influenced by the medical practices of ancient Egypt. The anatomy was particularly advanced because of the ability to dissect the human body.
