Everyman is a dramatized allegory. In the play, Everyman is the allegorical figure of every man, he represents all humanity. He is called to a journey to God by the allegorical figure of death. Here the first level of meaning is literal: a man goes on a journey, the second level is symbolic: every man's life is a journey, every man begins and ends with death, and the main subject of the play is a journey to death.
