Hofstede's Cultural Theory Business Essay
This article provided a synthesis of Hofstede's multidimensional culture framework and Inglehart's theory of cultural change. Using a variety of psychometric techniques commonly used in cultural differences, we can conclude that cultural differences impact businesses that take place in cross-cultural contexts. Many problems arise in the areas of participation, communication and other aspects that influence decision-making in an organization. However, it is essential for business leaders to understand issues surrounding the six dimensions of Hofstede's theory. There are four dyads of cultural aspects according to Hofstede's cultural differentiation model. These include masculinity versus femininity, long-term orientation versus short-term orientation, individualism versus collectivism, and the uncertainty avoidance index Steers and Masculinity versus femininity focuses on a culture. His measurements yield three important dimensions of cultural variation, called autonomy versus embeddedness, hierarchy versus egalitarianism, and mastery versus harmony. In overlapping countries, significant correlations are again found with Hofstede's 1980 scores for collectivism and power distance. The cultural dimensions theory of Geert Hofstede, a Dutch social psychologist, is widely accepted worldwide and used for modeling intercultural communication. Hofstede introduced several criteria for assessing culture, which makes successful intercultural communication possible.
