Human Immune Systems Against Infections Biology Essay

Fighting infections is the job of different types of white blood cells. Early in an immune response, the most important of these are the neutrophils and macrophages of the innate immune system cells, which are the first to arrive at the site of an environmental intrusion, such as an insect bite. Both cell types are effective killers on their own. Sydney Brenner noted, “We no longer need to look for a model organism. Because we are the model organisms.” We propose that studying the immune system in humans, who are genetically diverse and affected by a wide range of diseases, provides both a direct link to medicine, i.e. “translation”, and the very real: The introduction of serious acute respiratory syndrome, SARS-CoV- 2 in the human population represents a huge medical and economic crisis. As the first line of defense of our immune system, innate immunity plays a central role in combating this new virus. Here we provide a conceptual framework for the Metrics. Host-pathogen interaction is considered a highly dynamic process between diverse microbial pathogens and hosts at all stages of pathogen infection, from invasion to spread.
