Gender Mainstreaming in HIV-AIDS Health and Social Care Essay
The social problems associated with AIDS can be understood in two ways. Firstly, they can refer to the social determinants of the pandemic. Secondly, they relate to the social impact of the pandemic. Ethical issues raise some of the most vexing problems associated with HIV infection. 1 Ethics cannot be considered in a vacuum. Moreover, structural interventions such as anti-discrimination laws, the treatment of HIV-AIDS as a medical condition and the easy availability of ARV are required to change the social environment and climate in which people with HIV-AIDS live. Similarly, healthcare personnel at all levels should be equipped with intensive training to sensitize them to this. Gender mainstreaming is the intergovernmentally agreed global strategy for achieving gender equality. This brochure highlights gender mainstreaming approaches and strategies.
