Geometry Explanation Tutor and Animalwatch Tutor Teaching Essay
The Geometry Explanation Tutor has been developed to help students explain their problem-solving steps in their own words. It has been found that students who explained the problem-solving steps in a dialogue with the teacher did not learn better overall than students. who explain via a menu, but learned better. To test this hypothesis, we develop the Geometry Explanation Tutor. This system helps students, through a limited form of dialogue, to provide general explanations of the problem-solving steps in their own words. We conducted a pilot study in which the teacher was deployed to a secondary school for two lessons.
