Crime a Social Phenomenon Criminology Essay
Crime is a broad and multifaceted problem. Various theories explain its occurrence. In particular, lifestyle theory explains the reasons for victimization and the commonality between victims and their aggressors. Environmental, precipitation, and social structure theories also explain the same phenomenon by outlining its characteristics. Recently, zemiology and social harm research have emerged as part of a project that aims to move 'beyond criminology', Hillyard et al. 2004a. Central to this endeavor is a commitment to the idea of 'harm' as a fundamentally more useful concept than 'crime' for understanding and addressing a range of harmful social capital punishments. Criminology is the scientific study of crime, criminal behavior and the criminal justice system. It is a multidisciplinary field that draws on knowledge and theories from various social sciences, including sociology, psychology and law. Criminologists try to understand the causes of crime and its impact,
