Distributed Database Systems DDBS can be defined as integrated database systems composed of autonomous local databases, geographically distributed and interconnected by a computer network. The purpose of this monograph is to present DDBS concurrency control algorithms and their associated performance issues. Most concurrency control for transactions is done by the transaction manager of a database system and within that component by a scheduler, and was originally developed for centralized, single-server systems. The scheduler implements an algorithm that takes operations from active transactions and places them in an interleaving or abstract.
