How social work's '50th anniversary' illustrates the importance of practitioners shaping the profession Social work has seen significant changes imposed over the past half-century, but the legacy of social media offers significant opportunities for social workers. Social media, if used effectively, can be a tool for employees to improve practice, encourage collaboration, create virtual communities of practice, facilitate greater integration and monitor CPD. Social media is about more than just Facebook and Twitter. Family approaches – including those used at systemic conferences and family group conferences – should also be part of every social worker's toolbox. However, group and community social work methods are also essential if we are to be well positioned to respond to the changing landscape of health and social care needs in our society. The purpose of this essay is to reflect on the importance of law for social work and social work users, taking into account the relevance of social work values. Social workers must make decisions and choices in their daily practice based on both their own values and the value requirements as established by the Central Healthcare Council.,
