The novel, A Walk in the Woods, chronicles the adventures and challenging moments of Bills Bryson with his old high school friend Katz as they hike the Appalachian Trail. In the story: 'There is an environmental threat that is causing the disease, and the forest was fraught with danger for Bryson. Bill is determined and curious to know and learn his own. Using Thoreau's essay "On Walking," I attempted to supplement Bill Bryson's memoir of hiking the Appalachian Trail in A Walk in the Woods. Bryson's writings were more accessible to the students than Thoreau-century prose, which is full of allusions of all kinds. Unlike Thoreau, Bryson provides background instruction.
