Theology presupposes the Christian faith, which is an affective response to Christ and requires “confidence and assurance of heart.” 2.33. Yet Scholastic philosophy, with its “endless labyrinths” and “obscure definitions,” has “drawn a veil over Christ to hide Him” 2.2. Jesus' teaching focuses much more on his own identity and his unique relationship with the Father. Jesus is the eternal Son who came to reveal the Father. Salvation comes through knowing the Father through the Son. Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In short, the evangelist speaks categorically about Jesus throughout his work by portraying Him as the Word, the Son of God, the Savior of the Planet – Earth, the Lord. and God, as well as the Son of Man. 18.
