An essay is a focused piece of text that is intended to inform or persuade. There are many different types of essays, but they are often defined into four categories: argumentative, expository, narrative, and descriptive essays. Argumentative and expository essays focus on conveying information and making clear points while being narrative. 1. The problem of truth is one of the great classical problems of philosophy, and philosophy has given many different answers to the question of what truth is in its long history. The following considerations, however, do not concern the history of this issue, but examine the problem of truth from a philosophy of expertise. In modern societies it is virtually impossible to abandon trust in expert advice: be it in everyday contexts such as asking the train conductor about the arrival time at the next station or in scientific contexts, in which research projects of so-called 'Big Science' ' require the cooperation of many scientists.
