The textbook section is objective, fair and critical. Critical in the sense of a truthful and complete view of the diaconate in history, as it is today, and what it could grow into. But the book is also steeped in faith and hope. I hope that the diaconate can grow and flourish, not only in numbers, but also in substance, in fulfilling the role.
